Sleepwalker Sun is a great new band from Brazil fronted by lead vocalist Giana Araujo. The music, composed by keyboardist Luis Alvim, straddles the line between light Dream Theater inflected progressive metal as well as progressive rock that has an ornate classical feel. Giana has a solid midrange voice with no accent. The disc consists of 7 epic length tracks that are filled with extended keyboard and guitar solos. You get this interesting mix of crunchy guitar riffs juxtapozed against quiet piano and mellotron parts - it creates a dynamic feel that I find compelling. The band is helped out by noted violinist Marcus Viana (Sagrado Corracao Di Terra) and keyboardist Andre Mello (Tempus Fugit), as well as many other guest musicians. (JFK)
