ALBUM REVIEW
Hal Darling's second release, D2R, is dark, moody, and brooding in overall tone and atmosphere. The US percussionist, drummer, keyboardist and composer Hal Darling releases this “D2R” (“as in “Darling Second Recording”), featuring Uri Gatton on guitars and Athan Gailis on horns. It is an album focused on the jazz side of prog, full of odd times and of rumbling drums and percussions, full of non expectable and surprising changes and breaks, of weird moments and of strange passages...Of course drums and percussions are the leading instruments in this album, followed in centrality by keyboards, but notwithstanding this “D2R” doesn’t seem to be an individualistic wank like many other solo albums...It is an interesting and well played record, catching and suggestive, well recorded and produced, with a look on lost sonorities and another towards musical evolution.
