ALBUM REVIEW
Original progressive music; melodic but metal, dark but insightful, intense and powerful real rock. A progressive metal act from Madison, Wisconsin, MINE has self-released their first CD, and if the disc makes it to the right ears, a record label will be releasing the next one. This is a quality group of musicians who, while working within the realm of heavy metal, have wide and varied soundscape. The group is reminiscent of other prog-rockers like Rush, Dream Theater, ELP, and even the mighty Deep Purple. The opening, classically-influenced piano run of the first track, "Sharp," sets the stage for the rest of the album, which fuses the power of John Hilke's drums and Eric Amble's ripping guitar with Wagner-esque keyboards and thoughtful, soaring vocals. While singer and bassist Kase is the natural leader of the group, the ace-in-the-hole is keyboardist Jim Ford who steals the show with his grandiose leads and textured pads. (Just for Kicks)
