ALBUM REVIEW
The story of Fili D’Erba begins in Canada at the end of the 60's when a 20 years old young bassist, Frank Del Giudice, starts dealing with music: there he formed his first band called Beinz. Then, in Toronto, he knew an italian popular singer named Nicola Di Bari (songs like La Prima Cosa Bella or Vagabondo are amongst his famous ones) and this meeting let them to come to Italy as a support band. But something new happened when during 1971, after that Beinz has disbanded, subsequent line up changes and some concerts around Italy, Del Giudice met in Milan Paolo Moderato (keyboards), Luigi Liguori (guitar) and the french-italian percussionist Jean-Pierre Olivas, so Fili D'Erba has born. Just a year later they released the first and only long playing by the same title of their career for the independent label Italdisc. It includes 11 songs some sung in English while others in Italian: it was an idea of the producer for a possible success in the international market. The presence of an Hammond organ and some sporadic Mellotron appearances has led many reviewers to think about Fili D’Erba as a progressive rock outfit while it can be properly classified as pop music with beat influences. Despite this, really, the songs are too simple and quite short with nothing memorable that’s why it isn’t overall an essential album but rather a record for completists only.
