VEBB was a cooperative of musicians formed in 1972 around bassist Bill Gagnon, who operated a recording studio in the Ville Emard district of Montreal. The studio was a meeting place for many of Quebec's leading session musicians and recording artists. The 25 or so members of VEBB included many session musicians from well known artists such as Charlebois, Vos Voisins, Franck Dervieux and Contraction, and later groups such as Toubabou and Harmonium. While VEBB's music encompassed various styles including folk, rock, funk and world beat, the majority of its compositions were mainly progressive jazz-based instrumentals with some female vocalizations. By popular demand, it released a bootleg LP in 1973, which was broadcast live on CHOM, Montreal's English FM rock radio station. The album was entitled "Minute! Ville Emard Blues Band is Coming", and sold thousands of copies in the first few weeks of its release. The next was another live LP, this time a more professionally produced double album entitled "Live a Montreal", recorded at Theatre St-Denis in Montreal in January 1974. A studio LP entitled "Ville Emard" was released in 1975. This double CD includes all these recordings. Highly Recommended!
