Ultime Atome is a Parisian band that had to wait for about ten years to get the opportunity to issue their first album. "Dark Visions" (2003) proves that it was worth the wait ! This album shows a definitely modern Progressive rock that develops some sequences quite close to heavy-metal. As for the keyboards parts, they create ambiences that remind of the gothic movement. Four tracks only are featured on this album, two of them being epics of 14 and 22 minutes. The dark and tense atmospheres are created mainly by the singer's voice that reminds of the German band CHANDELIER and even MARILLION in the FISH period (The stress was put on the choice made of a theatrical and expressive vocal style). They are then reinforced by the disquieting keyboards, and by a kind of mid-tempo, or even slowness at times. If we add some guitar solos that blend a Seventies spirit and powerful riffs, we get a stunning, romantic and evoking album. Not to be missed !
