The Finnish magazine Colossus asked thirty (yes, thirty) progressive bands, from all over the world, to illustrate moments of “Kalevala”. Kalevala is the finnish national epic, made of old finnish ballads and lyrical songs, a complex and diverse cycle of legends which inspired Tolkien (for “the lord of the rings”) as well as the composer Sibelius, among many others. The idea of the project was to use original, “vintage” instruments of the seventies, to get the “old” feeling needed by the story. And, by the way, no programmed drums…The result is astounding: nearly four hours of a gorgeous, splendid progressive rock, neo-classic, symphonic, experimental, heavy-prog’, and whatever you like!! No doubt that there was great emulation between the bands, as some of them deliver their best performance here! Not to be missed!
