IN SEARCH OF ANCIENT GODS
WOUNDED BIRD RECORDS ECD7680 - UK, 1976
This obscure little gem is the only album by UK group Absolute Elsewhere, led by keyboardist / composer Paul Fishmann. The group also included guitarist Philip Saatchi, bassist Jon Astrop and the great Bill Bruford on drums. This is a concept album based on the books by Erich von Daniken, who proposed a theory of earthly intelligence being of alien origin – a concept quite popular at the time. The music is atmospheric and moody, but has all the basic ingredients of Prog, which makes it appropriate both for Prog and Ambient fans. (Jazzis - Rate Your Music)
Aranis, the Flemish ensemble led by double-bassist Joris Vanvinckenroye, keep on evolving on their fourth album, RoqueForte, released on the fantastic Italian label, Altr0ck. While the first two albums provided beautiful chamber music with strong rhythmic backbone and some folk-ish tendencies, the third album presented more ambiance as well as vocalization. In this album, they are joined four guests, Ward De Vleesschouwer (piano), Stefan Wellens (viola), Pierre Chevalier from Present and Univers Zero (piano) and Dave Kerman from 5UU’s, Thinking Plague and various other projects (drums and percussions). You’d think that adding drumming to their music would change their sound dramatically, but that is not the case at all. Dave Kerman’s drumming is subtle and not dominative and mingles perfectly with the rest of the instruments. In fact, it sounds as if the percussions were always a part of the band’s sound. The sound is more edgy, rough, raw and yet still as elegant as ever. They have veered into territories covered by Univers Zero and Present, i.e. a darker and more brooding style and atmosphere; but they have not lost their identity, their sound and charm. Indeed, the Aranis personality is renewed here in this extended lineup. RoqueForte shows the group in their usual punctual playing and elaborate compositions, yet with a new direction and somewhat different approach, showing their strive to evolve as a musical entity...RoqueForte is a superb offering from Aranis, another wonderful achievement from a band that seems intent on progressing their sound. If you liked Aranis’ previous releases, you definitely should get this as well. If you’re new to Aranis and would like to try them out, I find this is a good entry point and you could then work your way backwards. As there are a lot of nuances, quieter parts and overall many intricacies, I recommend listening attentively and on headphones. (avestin - Rate Your Music)

An independent Dutch band coming from Almelo, a city placed in the northern Holland, offering a progressive rock music with a strong contemporary approach. Sparrows, their debut, is a dramatic concept album telling the feelings of a man who lived a divorce. The music of Barstool Philosophers takes inspiration from a Marillion style new-prog based on layered keyboards, pulsating bass lines and guitar parts of great impact with powerful leanings to hard rock and prog metal forms. Particular mention is for the lead singer Leo Brouwer who plays his role perfectly ranging from the Ian Gillan high-pitch alike vocals to nuances a la David Bowie. A really interesting debut. Ref. Provenienti da Almelo, una cittadina dell’Olanda settentrionale, questa band indipendente ci propone un rock progressivo di pregevole fattura fortemente influenzato dalle sonorità del rock contemporaneo. Sparrows, il loro debutto discografico, è un concept album drammatico che narra i sentimenti di un uomo che ha appena vissuto un divorzio. La loro musica trae ispirazione dal neo-prog stile Marillion del primo periodo e si basa su un suono avvolgente delle tastiere, coadiuvate da linee di basso vivaci e dal grande impatto sonoro delle parti di chitarra; durante l’ascolto, la miscela di ognuno di questi elementi si trasforma, sviluppando trame musicali già note al repertorio classico dell’hard rock e del prog metal, senza mai perdersi in inutili virtuosismi e conservando, invece, una precisa identità compositiva e emotiva. Di particolare rilievo l’interpretazione vocale del cantante Leo Brouwer che svolge il suo ruolo alla perfezione riportando alla memoria dell’ascoltatore, in taluni momenti, i preziosi acuti del miglior Ian Gillan e, in altri, lievi sfumature timbriche a la David Bowie. Cinque anni dopo l’acclamato Inaudito, i Calomito tornano con un nuovo grande album! I Calomito mescolano con gusto avant-prog, Canterbury, jazz e folk, ma concedendo il giusto spazio alla melodia, caratteristica tipica di molte band italiane. Accanto alla consueta strumentazione elettronica, gli arrangiamenti prevedono una tavolozza particolarmente curata di timbriche acustiche – trombone, viola, violino – che danno alla band un suono ben riconoscibile. Tagliente e piacevole, Cane di schiena è un notevole passo avanti rispetto al primo album, un chiaro segno di maturità per una band considerata fra le più interessanti della scena alternativa italiana, in grado di prendere il meglio dal passato e riproporlo in una nuova direzione. Canada are one of the few Italian bands from the 80's strongly influenced by hard rock and progressive. This CD features all their material originally included in three demo tapes and some previously unreleased tracks. Even though it's passed a lot of time their sound is still modern and fresh. Ref. Rush, Triumph, Kansas.Dalle ceneri degli anni ottanta, tornano i Canada, una delle poche band italiane dell’epoca con influenze hard e prog, che citava Rush, Triumph e Kansas tra i propri riferimenti. Il cd contiene l’intero repertorio del periodo, pubblicato in origine su tre demo tape ed alcuni inediti. Un tuffo nel passato per immergersi in un suono ancora fresco ed attuale.
I Chance:Risiko, quartetto bolognese al debutto con Sleep Talking, non dimostrano certo la loro età. Appena poco più che ventenni, sfornano undici canzoni raffinatissime, misurate e di grande atmosfera. I quattro riprendono il filo del discorso lasciato in sospeso dagli Art Bears, attraverso una forma-canzone dilatata, impreziosita da ritmiche asimmetriche e da arrangiamenti ricchi di dettagli. Fra echi di Robert Wyatt e melodie pacate quanto allucinate, i Chance:Risiko incuriosiscono e affascinano per l’intelligenza, il senso della melodia e la profondità sonora. Ref. The music of CICCADA is a mix of rock, jazz, folk and Western European legacy from the middle-ages to 20th century. It is based on strong melodic lines and is mainly influenced by some fine progressive bands and artists of the `70`s like Alan Stivell, Spirogyra, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Renaissance, Strawbs, Curved Air, Hatfield & the North and classical innovators Béla Bartók & I.Stravinsky. The group was formed in April 2005 by flutist Nicolas Nikolopoulos (who plays also the keyboards) and fellow guitar player Yorgos Mouchos. A little after, singer Evangelia Kozoni joined the duo and this is the core of the band until today. After a series of constantly changing line-ups (including a male singer, bass, cello, clarinet, trumpet, piano & drums players) and several gigs in Athens hometown, the act is consolidated with the addition of bass player Omiros Komninos in 2009 and with this formation, they enter the studio during July of the same year to record their music. Amongst many guest participations there are special contributions from members of famous Italian bands YUGEN (P.BOTTA, P.CAVEDON,V.CIPOLLONE, M.SIGNO') and DFA (A. DE GRANDIS). (Altrock Prod.)

THE BIRD AND THE SKY ABOVE

The Bird is very much a departure from the usual FW soundscapes. The album consist of of a single piece (the title track), divided in six parts depicting the landscapes of our flying friends. FW was often borderline dissonant in their previous album, but here they might be better described as rarely-sonant, if you get my drift. Indeed while the album starts out (with the Soft Dreaming first part) slow enough to describe an early dawn with Johnson's flute, Henri's piano is directly dissonant, but this is composed music, no doubt even if the trumpet and sax go wildly weird, bouncing around in your room. The second instalment called First Flight is collaboration between Henri and Onofre (who takes over the piano) and sounds even more dissonant. The silde trumpet (?) and the sax are singing out the birdsongs over un-rhythmic percussions. More of the same for the Onofre-penned Walking On The Ground and the following Stealing On The picnic Table, where the group is joined by Strauss' bass sax (I suppose a cross between the baritone sax and the bassoon). As you can imagine, Dark Clouds is much wilder and noiusy as our flying superhero defies and survives the demented forces of nature. (S.Trane - Progarchives)

TRATANDO DE RESPIRAR EN LA FURIA

Lizard records è lieta ed orgogliosa di annunciare l'uscita del quarto album della band argentina HABITAT: il concept "Tratando de respirar en la furia" è senza dubbio il miglior disco del gruppo di Aldo Pinelli, ricco di atmosfere sinfo-prog a tinte folkish, che richiamano certe progressioni a sviluppo narrativo dei Genesis di "Selling England by the pound", con riferimento inevitabile anche allo Steve Hackett di "Voyage of the Acolyte". Particolarmente efficace l'intro strumentale "La Luna Roya y la Montana Negra", arricchito da un incantevole flauto, rappresentativo di suggestivi cambi di scena dell'intero disco, caratterizzato da pregevoli chitarre elettro-acustiche e tastiere settantiane. Quasi un'ora di di ispirato sinfo-prog, caratterizzato dalla suite finale "Pastores de Renos", grazie anche ad un respiro piuttosto originale che sa coniugare certe storiche pagine progressive inglesi ad una
personale dimensione espressiva e poetica sudamericana, tra tratti oscuri e malinconici ed efficaci melodie. Non ultima la classica ciliegina sull'eccellente torta: come bonus-track
un'accattivante versione in spagnolo di "Gioco di bimba" de Le Orme, ulteriore incontro, non casuale, tra grandi melodie ed atmosfere progressive, tra storico passato e attualità, a rinverdirne i fasti e certi temi immortali, abbattendo barriere temporali e geografiche. (Lizard)
Humble Grumble è una sorprendente band belga che è riuscita a produrre con notevole maestria un suono originale ed efficace, mescolando numerosi generi – rock, jazz, folk, prog. La band segue la grande tradizione del rock alternativo belga di X-Legged Sally, Fukkeduk, Think of One… Nel loro stile unico potrete facilmente ritrovare strutture complesse, ritmi intricati, accanto a una vena dichiaratamente melodica. Non ultimo, gli Humble Grumble sfoderano un’ironia inesauribile, che ricorda soprattutto lo stile di Frank Zappa. Since all three members of this unit are experienced individuals in the area of avant- garde, it is no surprise that the result of their assembly should lead to a proficient mixture of electronic krautrock, minimalist ambient, atmospheric post-rock (a-la Tortoise) and the direct heritage of the German school of Elektronische Musik...Liir Bu Fer is a very solid reference in the ways of electronic experimental music that are being accomplished nowadays all over the world: it's a good time to keep track of this band with (hopefully) future releases. "Chances & Accidents" conferma e rafforza la sorprendente maturità di questa giovane band (20 anni di media): un suono energico, pulsante, ricco di groove ma anche di trame elaborate, raffinate e di aperture melodiche. La centralità solistica dell'alto sax di Andrea Massarotto, l'agile ed incalzante sezione ritmica di Stefano Volpato (basso) e Riccardo Pestrin (batteria), le accurate soluzioni tastieristiche di Alessandro Caldato, il pregevole chitarrismo talora melodico talora graffiante di Giacomo Girotto, tutto si fonde in un ineccepibile equilibrio mozzafiato di ritmi e suoni.
SEARCHING FOR REFLECTIONS

After twelve years of obscure experience in the musical scene started as a Dream Theater cover band, including ups and downs and several changes in line-up, Methodica releases through the well known Italian label Underground Symphony its excellent debut Searching for Reflections. They come from Verona, in the nothern Italy, and offer an inventive, strong and powerful progressive metal music. Most of the tracks are over ten minutes long showing a skilful playing, a wise use of vintage keyboards sounds as well as the modern ones, precise guitar in the typical prog metal style, finally a very good singer and a solid rhythm section. Considering the current chaotic musical scene, even though we're not talking about a masterpiece, Methodica's Searching for Reflections is surely a highly recommended work for all the fans of Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery and Cairo amongst others. The first pressing is housed in a limited deluxe digipak edition. Ref. Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery, Cairo.Dopo un lungo periodo di onorata gavetta durata dodici anni e iniziata come cover band dei Dream Theater, a dispetto degli immancabili alti e bassi e dei diversi cambiamenti di formazione susseguitisi nel tempo, i Methodica giungono alla pubblicazione del loro debutto discografico intitolato Searching for Reflections grazie all'etichetta italiana Underground Symphony, ormai affermatasi e considerata tra le migliori negli ambienti internazionali della musica indipendente. Provenienti da Verona i Methodica sono una potente e creativa band di progressive metal. Nelle sette tracce che compongono il disco, la maggior parte delle quali superano i dieci minuti di durata, riescono ad esprimere tutta la loro maestria sia dal punto di vista compositivo che esecutivo: dimostrano infatti di essere una band navigata, alternano suoni di tastiere vintage a quelli più moderni e vicini allo stereotipato sound prog metal, ben rafforzate dalle strutture taglienti della chitarra elettrica e da una solida sezione ritmica. Persino il cantato, quasi sempre punto debole di tutte le odierne produzioni discografiche, è certamente all'altezza e degno di nota. Considerando l'attuale e sempre più caotica scena musicale, nonostante non ci si trovi di fronte ad un capolavoro, quello dei Methodica è certamente un lavoro di eccellente qualità consigliatissimo soprattutto agli amanti di gruppi quali i Dream Theater, gli Shadow Gallery e i Cairo. Dietro i Nerve Institute si cela in realtà la genialità del solo Mike Judge, compositore e polistrumentista (nonché scrittore) di Kansas City, animatore e collaboratore di numerosissimi progetti di chiara impronta avant e sperimentale. Architets of Flesh-Density è un vero e proprio one man album: Judge scrive, canta e suona tutti gli strumenti, con maestria e senza commettere le tipiche ingenuità di certe produzioni autarchiche. In particolare evidenza le chitarre, moltiplicate, rifratte, filtrate. L’impronta del RIO, Zappa, avant-prog e colta contemporanea è evidente. Come nel precedente Ficciones (pubblicato a nome Sinthome), Judge si lascia ispirare da altri mondi extramusicali: in questo caso, la scrittura di Alain Robbe-Grillet e il cinema di G.W. Pabst. Nichelodeon’s music feels spontaneous, impulsive, coming straight from the “demented” and “tortured” mind of Claudio Milano. The sounds emanating from the speakers can be frightening and spooky while at other points they can be charming and embracing. But most of all, the music sounds like a real-time soundtrack of various experiences. Listening to the album, I felt I was travelling through Claudio’s mind, encountering all these strange sceneries, places and people. The music is an odd but well-done mixture of abstract and tangible. While one can discern melodic lines, it is presented in a way such as to make believe it is planned, or in a blurred and hazy manner (adding to that is the fact that there are no drumming on the album). This comes back to the issue of spontaneity: that is, the music for the most part sounds intuitive and impulsive, at times unstructured. The songs for the most part feature Claudio’s emotive voice, a piano and various noises and other instruments adding their sound and vibes, all together creating chilling and expressive soundscapes, eerie sonic projections and nightmarish-sounding compositions (listen in particular to song 4, Malamore e la Luna).
Realtà davvero interessante fin dai suoi esordi discografici, con Saturnal i madrileni October Equus, rinforzati da Vasco Trilla (batteria) e Alfonso Munoz (sax) dei Planeta Imaginario, si confermano la band di riferimento della scena avant-prog iberica. Spigoloso, ipnotico, intrigante, dal clima spesso plumbeo, talvolta perfino lugubre, l’album esplora armonie intricate, in un contrappunto senza fine tra la chitarra di Angél Ontalva (autore anche del notevole artwork del cd), il sax e le tastiere. Il risultato è di grande solidità, con aperture melodiche inaspettate, a metà tra i King Crimson di Starless and Bible Black e la densità strutturale degli Henry Cow. This is a bit better than the last 2 Pendragon albums but not as good as Not of This World, Masquerade Overture or Window of Life (their 3 best). Best song here by far is This Green and Pleasant Land which is worth the price of admission alone and rivals their best songs from the aforementioned trio of Pendragon classics. I know the band is trying to "progress" but I hold out hope that they reassess that philosophy and listen to Masquerade Overture again and try to duplicate the magic they practiced on it. The signature "Pendragon sound" is lacking on all but This Green and Pleasant Land and that's the sound most fans of the band love, I know I do. It'd be really nice if they'd concentrate on putting out a full album of classic Pendragon and worry less about aping the Porcupine Tree roadmap. Pendragon isn't PT and when they're at their best they leave PT in the dirt! Still, at the end of the day, Pendragon is one of the best bands in the world and even their weaker songs are superior to 99.9% of the muck that passes as modern prog. (redfish365 - Rate Your Music)

Phaedra is a new band coming from Trento province, in the northern Italy, which started in 1993. They moved the first steps with some live performances making covers of the progressive rock classics taken from the Genesis, Yes and Rush repertoire. After several appearances through the last seventeen years at national music festivals, such as the Musikadine, the Genesis Tribute and Concentratissimo Rock, they finally release in 2010 their debut on CD. Ptah, that's the title, is a rock opera conceived since 2002 as a concept album including 14 original tracks. Phaedra line-up is really crowdy as it's formed by eight members, we mean the classic quartet keyboards-guitar-bass-drums plus two violins, flute and an additional keyboard player. The compositions clearly take inspiration from the Italian and the British 70's progressive rock style ranging from romantic and dreaming passages performed by acoustic guitars and flute to other ones more complex and symphonic with lush keyboards, precise rhythm section and violin/flute interplays. On the other hand, despite the pleasant and involving musical structures, it's really a pity to mention the only weak spots of this work in the singing parts, in our opinion, too much often under the task, but it's good to remember that we're always talking about an independent effort. Overall Ptah can be considered a swallow dive into the realms of the loved 70's prog rock and it's worthy to listen to. Ref. Hanno mosso i primi passi esibendosi in alcuni concerti dal vivo eseguendo brani del repertorio ormai classico di bands quali Genesis, Yes e Rush. Dopo alcune apparizioni a festival musicali nazionali durante gli ultimi diciassette anni, fra gli altri ricordiamo il Musikadine, il Genesis Tribute e il Concentratissimo Rock, pubblicano finalmente nel 2010 il loro debutto su CD. Ptah, questo il titolo del progetto, è un'opera rock concepita sin dal 2002 come un concept album composto da 14 brani originali. La formazione dei Phaedra è piuttosto affollata essendo composta da otto musicisti, in pratica il classico quartetto tastiere-chitarra-basso-batteria con l'aggiunta di due violini, un flautista e un altro tastierista. Le loro composizioni traggono evidente ispirazione dal prog rock italiano e britannico degli anni '70 offrendoci in taluni momenti passaggi romantici e sognanti, grazie agli abili arpeggi alle chitarre acustiche e al magico suono del flauto, mentre in altri fanno sfoggio delle timbriche più disparate delle tastiere, di una sezione ritmica puntuale e di intermezzi di violino e flauto concedendoci così anche il lato più complesso e sinfonico della loro musica. Allo stesso tempo, nonostante le strutture musicali siano piacevoli e coinvolgenti, non si possono nascondere i punti deboli che emergono durante l'ascolto delle parti affidate al canto che, a nostro parere, spesso risultano essere al di sotto delle aspettative penalizzando oltremodo l'intero lavoro: a parziale attenuante può essere preso in cosiderazione il fatto che si tratti di una opera prima e indipendente. Nel complesso, per concludere, Ptah ci invoglia a fare un nuovo tuffo nel passato, immergendoci in quei suoni e quelle atmosfere che da trent'anni or sono hanno amabilmente accompagnato le aspirazioni e i sogni adolescenziali dei molti di allora e che oggi vengono riproposte con sincerità in questo lavoro realizzato faticosamente grazie alla grande passione dei suoi componenti. La registrazione di questo concerto, tenutosi il 16 novembre 2008 in chiusura dell’AltrOck Festival 2008, ripropone la prima esibizione dal vivo di PdP + Yugen (se si esclude un’incursione di PdP sul palco dell’AltrOck Festival 2007 per un Uccellin dal bosco a sorpresa). Fully instrumental chamber prog of the most enjoyable kind... for a while at least, since the band is recycling their ideas too much and after some songs you begin to feel that this is not developing. Maybe they have figured out the same thing by themselves too, because there's some pure folk songs, this time with vocals only, to cheer things up. But the problem is that they feel really irrational here, and again, all the folk pieces are exactly alike! This review slipped on to the bad side - only because my expectations were too high due to the song sample and reviews below. Still, it's a nice piece of work! (herrahuu – Rate Your Music) Ref. Davvero molto interessante questo debut album dei Primaluce. Si tratta di un ep di 5 brani di rock d'autore che, a mio giudizio, vale la pena di ascoltare. L'opener "Il giorno che vivrei" è un brano d'impatto in bilico tra The Killers e U2, mentre le tracce centrali dell'album sono molto più d'atmosfera grazie al sapiente utilizzo di archi e strumenti acustici. La title-track "Nives" ricorda i Kings of Convenience in chiave orchestrale, il finale del pezzo è da batticuore. L'ultimo brano, "Il Re", è decisamente prog-oriented, e ricorda molto lo stile della PFM degli ultimi album. Buono l'utilizzo alternato dei due vocalist (in stile Kings of Convenience), testi molto ricercati e melodie raffinate ma allo stesso tempo radiofoniche. RanestRane is an Italian prog band from Rome that was formed in 1998. The aim of the musicians involved in this project was to compose and perform a rock-opera, so they chose a famous Werner Herzog's film, "Nosferatu The Vampyre", and commented it with music and original lyrics. They started their live activity in 2000 and conceived their
shows as a "cineconcerto", with the images of the Herzog's film flowing in the background. In 2006 they released their rock-opera on a self-produced studio album, a double CD called "Nosferatu il Vampiro". Among their musical influences you can find bands like PFM, BMS, Genesis, Marillion. Ranestrane are re back with their new rock opera, as usual in a lavish double cd. Great Italian melodic theatrical prog rock! Shining is one of the most important film in cinema history, and Kubrick is one of the most innovative and influential director of contemporary movie scene. Since the creation of Nosferatu The Vampire (Ranestrane's first cineconcerto), it took almost one year to identify a new subject for their second concept album, and begin the composition of "Shining The Cineconcerto". As Daniele Pomo mentions: "We had different possibilities, but in my mind it was clear that a tribute to Stanley Kubrick would represent the best choice for us. In fact, each of his films is a masterpiece, but the challenge was to create a new rock opera although Kubrick's films are so indelibly associated with their soundtracks, and often the public know and love these soundtrack very much. Once we had identify "Shining" as the most suitable film (the soundtrack is formed by pieces of contemporary musicians, less melodies and more experimental), we tried to find the right clue to re-interpret it. The answer came from Peter Gabriel and Darkness (from "UP"): one day, while I was listening to it, I have been carried away to Shining's world, colour, blood and madness... the answer was a more claustrophobic, psychedelic, aggressive music, different from the melodies of Nosferatu The Vampire, but with the typical RanestRane's music, with rotation of songs and instrumental pieces. So we began to work on "Shining the cineconcerto", for almost three years. It has been a really hard work, with three years of bad and good personal events and a deep emotional journey inside ourselves. We hope that the public of the rock opera could get this, and feel the new musical perspective connected with this film." (BTF)
ON PHENOMENA AND EXISTENCES

On phenomena and existences punta nella medesima direzione indicata dal precedente At work, di cui eredita la complessità e certe sonorità granitiche. Il gruppo bielorusso ripropone, se possibile in modo ancora più maturo e articolato, l’amore per i grandi nomi del Novecento russo (Stravinskij e Shostakovich su tutti, ma anche Bartok e Prokofiev) filtrato alla luce del rock più evoluto e, come di consueto, senza compromessi. Il clima dei brani, punteggiati efficacemente dalla voce inconfondibile di Olga Podgaiskaja, è inquieto, sonnambulico, talvolta grottesco, sottolineato dai testi di Daniel Charms e altri poeti dell’avanguardia russa. In una band dalla caratura tecnica complessiva indiscutibile, emerge in particolare la prestazione di Anna Ovchinnikova, al violoncello, e di Cyrill Christia, violinista e autore di diversi brani, sempre in bilico tra virtuosismo e sonorità più crepuscolari. AI CANCELLI DELL'OMBRA

Il nuovo stupefacente lavoro dei RUNAWAY TOTEM, Primo Libro della Reminescenza, denominato “AI Cancelli dell’Ombra”. Si tratta della registrazione dal vivo dell’ultimo concerto di Runaway Totem, tenutosi nel 1994 al Teatro Albatros di Genova. L’album, un ordinato caos che sembra convogliare l’energia dell’universo in musica, farà la gioia dei fan del “Rock In Opposition”, da Arthur Brown, Captain Beefheart a Frank Zappa.
I Sanhedrin sono un gruppo israeliano noto ai loro inizi, in particolare nel loro paese, come cover band dei Camel. Dopo un breve periodo la band ha iniziato a produrre materiale proprio, manifestando una chiara influenza dei grandi classici del rock del passato, come Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Genesis, VDGG, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull. Nonostante questo, i Sanhedrin sono in grado di proporre una musica davvero originale che potrebbe ricordare gli Asia Minor o gli Anglagard. Una tavolozza ricchissima di colori, atmosfere evocative, passaggi rock sofisticati e complessi, sono solo alcuni esempi di quello che Ever After può offrire. Un disco che non mancherà di stupire gli aficianodas del prog. Dopo il grande successo dei Ciccada, Fading Records è orgogliosa di presentare un album di prog sinfonico di altissima qualità! Ref. 1000 autunni è la prima prova solista di Paolo «Ske» Botta, già tastierista di Yugen e French TV. Dalle dodici tracce del cd emerge un’inaspettata maturità compositiva, in grado di alternare con grande convinzione stili differenti, dal prog sinfonico più tradizionale (Gentle Giant, Genesis, Anglagard) al Canterbury e all’avant-prog più coraggioso (Picchio dal Pozzo, Henry Cow, Hatfield and the North). La presenza di vari membri di Yugen (fra cui Fasoli, Cipollone, Zago) conferma l’impianto rock-cameristico del cd: alle inconfondibili timbriche vintage di Botta (Hammond, Arp, Rhodes, mellotron, ma senza nessun compiacimento rétro) si affiancano violino, fiati, arpa, percussioni, voce e un sofisticato trattamento sonoro. Fra gli ospiti, Pierre Wawzryniak e Fabrice Toussaint dei francesi Camembert (fra le prossime uscite AltrOck).
